We couldn’t be happier with Leo and Thor — both are healthy, happy, and have exceptional temperaments. They are confident, gentle, and incredibly well-adjusted, which speaks volumes about the quality of breeding and care at Fireside Fernweh.
Skylar is outstanding to work with — responsive, transparent, and genuinely committed to her dogs and families. From start to finish, the experience was smooth and trustworthy.
If you’re considering a puppy, Fireside Fernweh is the real deal. We feel extremely lucky to have Leo and Thor.

I am a proud owner and mom to Santiago of Fireside Fernweh! I absolutely adore my White Swiss Shepherd. As her owner and handler, Santiago earned her conformation championship through UKC, and we also compete in obedience and agility. Santiago is everything I want in a shepherd: loving, loyal, smart, and athletic. She’s a great family dog, friendly with people and children, and enjoys quality time with her humans and other pack members. Whether it’s playing ball, doing obedience and agility, or walking in the neighborhood.
Four years ago, after some Googling, I learned about White Swiss Shepherds. I immediately knew it was the breed for me. When I looked up reputable breeders, I had specific criteria and standards for what I wanted—that’s when I found Skylar of Fireside Fernweh. Not only is she very knowledgeable, but she also holds herself to high standards, always prioritizing the health and soundness of her dogs. Skylar is committed to preserving the breed and producing high-quality dogs capable of both show and performance. As someone who shows in conformation and competes in performance events, it was vital for me to find a quality breeder exactly like her.
When you get a Fireside Fernweh puppy, you’ll see firsthand that Skylar is a dedicated breeder. She goes above and beyond to ensure that her dogs are thoroughly health tested (and is transparent about the results), and she raises her puppies using ENS and Puppy Culture. This gives each pup a solid foundation and a strong chance of success in their new homes. Every puppy is raised in her home with love and care. When it comes to placing dogs in their new homes, she conducts thorough screenings, remains very supportive, and maintains consistent communication with both prospective and current families.

My wife and I were looking for a White Swiss Shepherd specifically. We scoured the web extensively. "Fireside Fernweh" stood out. As luck would have it Skylar had two breeding pairs in the works that looked outstanding. Beautiful dogs with excellent lineage and health. I was very impressed with the thought and care that went into selecting these pairs. A real nice mix of sport, obedience, conformation and easy temperament. Exactly what we were looking for. Now it was the waiting game. Our long wait was made much easier by the constant communication and video updates we found almost daily on the web and "Facebook" page. We watched as the puppies went to their first vet visits and as they went on outings in the community. Hundreds of beautiful still photographs were posted along the way and we saw our puppy develop into a gorgeous well rounded girl. "Zhayra" (our pup) is home with us now. She is superb! Smart, smart, smart. Agile as any pup I have ever had and loyal to a fault. Her conformation is exceptional from the tip of her nose to the end of her tail right down to the cutest little black toe nails! Skylar simply chalks it up to genetics but I know there is more to it than that. Her careful breeding, early training and socialization, and commitment to the breed. We could not be happier!

We brought home a Fireside Fernweh puppy from Skylar two years ago. We were very selective in our search, interviewing three different breeders before deciding Fireside Fernweh was the right fit. As former GSD owners, we knew we wanted a shepherd — and we were drawn to the White Swiss Shepherd specifically because the breed is known for its more mellow, less highly strung nature while still carrying all the loyalty, intelligence, and working drive we loved. We needed a dog who could hold his own in a busy, people-filled home without being wound too tight.
And our home is genuinely busy. We run a homeschool collaborative out of it four days a week, which means a constant rotation of children, activity, and noise. We have four cats who run the roost. Our goal was a dog solid enough for therapy work — the kind of high social competence and adaptability the White Swiss Shepherd is known for, able to integrate into all kinds of social situations.
Skylar picked the perfect pup for us. Remiel — "Remi" — is two years old now, and he is everything we hoped for and then some. He had his shepherd puppy energy, no question, but he also has a fantastic off-switch. He is equally happy helping herd our goats as he is stretched out getting tummy rubs from a group of eight-year-olds — which is exactly the breed hallmark of keeping "the group" together, whether that group is livestock or a house full of humans.
His personality is equal parts goofy and grounded. The breed standard calls for attentive, resilient, lively, and friendly, and Remi is a textbook example of all of it. He has been rock-solid since day one, and every trainer we've worked with has commented on how smart, eager to please, and well-adjusted he is. That doesn't happen by accident. Early training and socialization is essential for this breed, and it is clear that the intentional early puppyhood education Skylar invests in every litter is an irreplaceable head start — one that puts Fireside Fernweh in a category of its own.
We could not recommend Skylar more highly.
